Installing Dimensions

The following is a guide that covers how to set up your new Dimensions template on your Joomla site. Here you can find an overview of the files included in the Dimensions release and instructions on installing and activating the template in your Joomla install.

Downloading the Dimensions Files

The first step is to download all of the files that will be needed to install your template, custom modules, as well make modifications. Here is a quick explanation of each of the available files in the Dimensions release.
  • Dimensions Template (rt_dimensions.tgz) This file is the template package you will use to install your template into Joomla.
  • Dimensions Custom Extensions (dimensions_extensions.zip) This package contains each of the individual custom extensions included in the Dimensions template release.
  • Dimensions Source PNG's (dimensions_sources.zip) This zip contains the source png's for making modifications and customizations to the images in the template as well as the logo font. There are additional sources for the transparent background, buttons, typography and headers. You will need an image editing software (preferably Adobe/Macromedia Fireworks) to utilize the Source PNG files.

Step 1 - Using the Joomla installer

Go to your Admin control panel for your site. In the Menu at the top, go to Installers > Templates - Site. Next browse for your rt_dimensions.tgz file you downloaded and then click Upload File & Install. Now Dimensions is installed and in your template list. You should observe an introductory page in which you select Continue. Joomla Template Install

Step 2 - Making Dimensions your default template

Next, from your admin control panel, go to Site > Template Manager > Site Templates. This will pull up the list of your installed templates. Find Dimensions on the list and select the radio button to the left and then click Default up in the top right corner. Now Dimensions is set as your default template. If you view your site, you should see the Dimensions template up and running.

Mootools Integration

Dimensions utilises the javascript library known as mootools to power special effects such as the RokMooMenu, RokSlide integration, and RokZoom features. Dimensions uses the latest development build of the mootools javascript library, but is also now compatible with the earlier 1.11 version of mootools as well for better integration and backwards compatibility.

Dimensions built in mootools javascript and functionality can also be disabled, should you need to use third party extensions which utilise other javascript libraries. 15 Module Positions

Dimensions includes 15 built in module positions to allow for the ultimate in flexibility for your content and layout structure. These modules are collapsible, allowing you to only use the ones that work the best for your site's layout.

Multiple Modules in a Tab

Each module position that is located in the tabbed module area (user7-11 by default) can support multiple modules. Just publish more than one module to each module position, and they will line up side by side in that pane.

Add More Modules

You don't just have to stop at 5 tabs for 5 module positions. Add additional tabs and modules positions to your template by adding them to both your template's index.php file, as well as in your Joomla administrator's "Module Positions" manager.
